Funimation Announces Streaming, English Dub License for Heaven Official’s Blessing Donghua

Funimation marked an industry first by announcing their license acquisition of the Heaven Official’s Blessing donghua for an English release!

Along with plans to stream the series episode-by-episode as it debuts on bilibili’s official streams, Funimation also says that there will be a future dub in 2021. Fans can likely assume an eventual home video release, as most of Funimation’s series receive one. The series will launch on October 30th, and Funimation will provide access to North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Brazil.

The license is part of a previously announced partnership with bilibili, though this marks the first donghua to be made available on Funimation.

Funimation describes Heaven Official’s Blessing as follows:

“Xie Lian, the crown prince of Xian Le Kingdom, successfully ascends to Heaven during his third trial despite of successive demotions. However, he accidentally breaks the Gold Palace of heavenly officials. With no human worshiping him, Xie Lian has to descend to the secular world to exorcise ghosts, which may help him sustain his divinity.

During his adventure, Xie Lian encounters two heavenly officials and a mysterious young man in red. Four as a team, they experience lots of weird and bizarre events and gradually get to know the dark past of the seemingly glamorous Heaven.”

The Heaven Official’s Blessing donghua is an adaptation of Mo Xiang Tong Xiu’s novel series of the same name, produced by bilibili. Funimation is a prominent American entertainment company specializing in the distribution and licensing of anime and other predominantly Japanese media. They stream a wide range of anime series and movies, both subbed and dubbed, and offer a subscription-based service for fans to access their content.
