Seven Seas Announces Special Edition for SILENT READING: MO DU Vol. 1

Seven Seas announced they will be releasing a special edition for Vol. 1 of Silent Reading: Mo Du, a danmei novel written by priest. No artist has yet been announced via official channels.

Preorders will be available soon, as well as a specific release date. Seven Seas has projected a release in December 2025.

Seven Seas recently changed the way they handle Special Editions for their danmei releases, which are now only produced for the debut volume of select series. (Previously, they would release them with every danmei series’ final volume.) Seven Seas’ Silent Reading Vol. 1 Special Edition will be priced at $29.99 USD, and comes with a double-sided bookmark, a detective notebook, two police ID badges, and a sticker sheet; all with art unique to the release. As with all of Seven Seas’ danmei special editions, they are limited to a single print run and will not be available for purchase again after stock is sold out.

Silent Reading (默讀) is a danmei webnovel series written by the prolific author priest. It was originally serialized on jjwxc starting in 2016, and finished with 180 chapters and 5 extra chapters.

The series inspired an audio drama adaptation. A donghua and manhua adaptation were announced in 2020, but their production status remains unknown as of March 2025. A character trailer for the donghua can be viewed here, and the production’s official Weibo can be found here.

Silent Reading also inspired a live-action adaptation, known as Justice in the Dark (2023). It was the first dangai (a term for drama series based on danmei novels) adaptation to make it to air after the Chinese government tightened restrictions on media in 2021. It aired only eight of a planned thirty episodes in February 2023 before all further updates went silent, and it was eventually completely delisted from all official channels in July of the same year.

In January 2025, the Japanese streaming service WOWOW announced they had secured the rights to stream all thirty episodes. The series will begin streaming in mid-March 2025 under the name 光・淵, per the schedule currently available on WOWOW’s site.

Seven Seas provides the following series summary:
