Tokyopop Delays Release of Danmei Series THE WIZARD

Publisher Tokyopop announced a release delay for their upcoming release of The Wizard, a danmei novel written by Taiwanese author Shi Wu. Originally scheduled for April 8, 2025, the single-volume series will now be coming out May 20, 2025. The book is listed with a retail price of $19.99 USD.

Retail listings have also been updated to reflect the book’s expanded title—The Wizard: When Words Kill. Tokyopop’s German branch released its edition in November 2024, with a cover and preview on its website that may serve as a glimpse of the book’s future English design.

The book’s release has been delayed for a little over a month, and delays this short are not always communicated by publishers of Tokyopop’s size. The fact that Tokyopop made an official social media announcement indicates they may have an especially close eye on the series’ sales performance, as the success of a title is a strong precursor to a publisher licensing more similar works.

The Wizard marks Tokyopop’s first foray into danmei and will be released under their LoveLove label, an imprint dedicated to all forms of romance with a high percentage of boys’ love titles.
