Hai Tang Books announced their acquisition of the English license for A Certain Someone, a highly anticipated slice of life modern danmei by Mu Su Li. JulianLynnnn (Twitter/X) has returned to provide promotional artwork.
In their Twitter/X post, Hai Tang Books encouraged fans to share their favorite book quotes and suggest ideas for merch to be included with the release. A Certain Someone already has a notable cult following in western fandom, thanks to its tender and compelling story and the popularity of the author’s other works. Its popularity is sure to only grow with an official English release.
A Certain Someone
A Certain Someone (某某), also known by its pinyin title Mou Mou, is a danmei series written by Mu Su Li. It began serialization on jjwxc in 2019 and ran for 112 chapters. It has since been adapted into an audio drama, which is available on MissEvan.
Mu Su Li has written several other danmei series with upcoming English releases, including Three Hundred Years Of Longing and Copper Coins (to be published by Seven Seas Entertainment), as well as Global Examination (to be published by Rosmei). The translation is credited to H. Qing, and editor credit goes to Juzi Wang.
Hai Tang Books has not yet provided a summary for the work. The following summary is taken from DanmeiNews’ series catalog entry:
After being forced to move midway through the school year, Sheng Wang’s life is uprooted further when his father attempts to introduce him to the woman he’s been dating — as well as her son, Jiang Tian. Sheng Wang wants nothing to do with either of them, but on his first day at his new school, he finds that his deskmate is none other than his “stepbrother”-to-be.
Hai Tang Books is a new publisher to the western danmei scene, and have already announced five other upcoming danmei series for release in 2025: Guide on How to Fail at Online Dating, Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know, To Marry A Demon, I Can Do It, and Don’t Pick Up Boyfriends from the Trash Bin. According to their recently launched official site, there will be several more as yet unannounced series to come:
