Seven Seas Announces Licenses for LEGEND OF EXORCISM, DINGHAI FUSHENG RECORDS, and RIVERBAY ROAD MENS’ DORMITORY

Seven Seas Entertainment has announced that they have acquired the English publication license for not one, but three new danmei titles: Legend of Exorcism: Tianbao Fuyao Lu, Dinghai Fusheng Records, and Riverbay Road Men’s Dormitory. All three of these series are by Arise Zhang, which is a pen name for the incredibly prolific danmei author Fei Tian Ye Xiang (affectionately known to his fans as Chicken-gege).

Legend of Exorcism: Tianbao Fuyao Lu

Original title 天宝伏妖录, Legend of Exorcism: Tianbao Fuyao Lu is a webnovel series written by Arise Zhang (Fei Tian Ye Xiang). It was originally serialized on JJWXC starting in 2017, where it ran for 221 chapters. Chronologically, Legend of Exorcism: Tianbao Fuyao Lu is the second book in the Exorcism universe after Dinghai Fusheng Records. Legend of Exorcism has an audio drama, a manhua adaptation, and a donghua adaptation

Seven Seas Entertainment describes the story as:

In the mystical Taihang Mountains, where magic flows and powerful yao roam, Hongjun has grown up sheltered from the human world. A half-yao himself, he’s never had reason to leave—until the mountain’s ruler sends him on a dangerous mission: hide his true nature and join the Great Tang Department of Demonic Exorcism in Chang’an.

Upon arriving in the bustling capital, Hongjun meets Li Jinglong, a luckless soldier with no spiritual power tasked with leading a team of extraordinary exorcists. Together, they and their enigmatic companions must face the dark forces threatening the city. But as a bond begins to bloom between Hongjun and Li Jinglong, Hongjun wonders: Can he trust Li Jinglong with the truth of who—and what—he is?

Legend of Exorcism: Tianbao Fuyao Lu will be released in English with a translation credited to Lily and Louise, who also worked together on Stars of Chaos: Sha Po Lang. There are eight volumes slated for publication. It will also have brand new artwork by Ruthie (@kkcoocool).

Dinghai Fusheng Records

Original title 定海浮生录, Dinghai Fusheng Records is a webnovel series written by Arise Zhang (Fei Tian Ye Xiang). It was originally serialized on JJWXC starting in 2019, where it ran for 138 chapters. Chronologically, Dinghai Fusheng Records is the first book in the Exorcism universe and takes place in the same world as Legend of Exorcism. Dinghai Fusheng Records has a manhua adaptation as well as a donghua. Seven Seas announced their acquisition of the manhua license in June 2024.

Seven Seas Entertainment describes the story as:

It has been three hundred years since magic disappeared from the Divine Land. Chen Xing is the last Great Exorcist—a young man with a tenuous grip on magic whose life is destined to end on his twentieth birthday. As whispers about the return of the demonic entity known as Mara echo across the land, Chen Xing is burdened with a daunting task: to seek out his fated counterpart, the Protector Martial God, and together, to save the world.

Enter Xiang Shu, a condemned man with a haunted past. Accused of unspeakable atrocities, Xiang Shu is an enigma—handsome, skilled, and facing execution for crimes he claims he didn’t commit. As their destinies intertwine, Chen Xing and Xiang Shu embark together on a journey where the salvation of everything they know hangs in the balance.

Dinghai Fusheng Records will be released in English with a translation credited to moon, Elestrea, and Zryuu. There are six volumes slated for publication. No artist has yet been announced on official channels.

Riverbay Road Men’s Dormitory

Original title 江灣路七號男子宿舍, Riverbay Road Men’s Dormitory is a webnovel series written by Arise Zhang (Fei Tian Ye Xiang). Unlike the other two licenses announced by Seven Seas today, the story is set in modern-day China. It was originally serialized on Kadokado starting in 2024, where it ran for 50 chapters. Fei Tian posted the final chapter in May 2024, not very long at all before Seven Seas announced its acquisition in July of 2024. This also represents the series’ first ever physical release, even before Chinese-language editions have been announced.

Seven Seas Entertainment describes the story as:

After a childhood fractured by parental discord and plagued by the death of his grandparents, Zhang Yuwen is no stranger to making lemons into lemonade. Now twenty-seven years old, the reclusive, gay, and single Zhang Yuwen has taken his lofty inheritance—including a 6-bedroom house on Riverbay Road—all the way to the bank, becoming a multimillionaire movie director and mogul. However, Zhang Yuwen still longs for one thing: to be a famous writer among the likes of Dostoevsky and Kafka. When his contacts at a prestigious publisher refuse to publish his debut novel, calling it “fake” and “contrived,” Zhang Yuwen is left reeling.

Still, all is not lost. If the editor says his two-dimensional characters prove he doesn’t socialize enough, all he needs is a little more interaction with other single, gay men. Easy! He can put up an ad to rent out the rooms in his house and have the men come to him. After all, how much trouble could a handful of other single guys really be?

Riverbay Road Men’s Dormitory will be released in English with a translation credited to XiA. There are two volumes slated for publication. No artist has yet been announced on official channels.

The first volumes for all three titles are slated for an early 2025 release.
