In a post on Twitter/X, Seven Seas Entertainment has shared the cover for their upcoming English release of The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish: Canji Baojun De Zhangxin Yu Chong Vol. 1.

Seven Seas is using previously existing covers from the series’ four-volume Thai release, illustrated by artist 長樂 / Changle. The volume one artwork is notable for the liberties taken with the lead’s fish form, depicting the canonical “palm-sized” grey carp as a hulking white-and-orange speckled koi with battle scars. Although the amusing inaccuracy is unlikely to hinder most readers’ enjoyment of the book, the remaining three covers for the series no longer feature lead Li Yu in his fishy form, and give readers a lovely preview of artwork to come on Seven Seas’ future books.

The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish’s English edition will have exclusive new interior black and white illustrations by artist Ryoplica, with the volume’s bonus color art provided by artist akakumoeteru.

The series will be published in Seven Seas’ standard large trim format and include a fresh translation and an appendix. After debuting their danmei imprint with french flaps as a staple of the releases, the design element was discontinued as of the recently released Guardian Vol. 1 meaning all new series—including The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish—will no longer have them.

Original title 残疾暴君的掌心鱼宠[穿书, The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish: Canji Baojun De Zhangxin Yu Chong is a webnovel series written by Xue Shan Fei Hu. It was serialized on JJWXC and ran for 156 chapters. The series was previously known to English fans as The Disabled Tyrant’s Pet Palm Fish.

Seven Seas announced their license of The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish back in July 2023.

Seven Seas’ back cover blurb summarizes volume one as follows:

In this novel series originally released in Chinese–and coming to the English language for the first time–a man is transported into the historical world of a webnovel to win over a tyrant…as his pet fish!

When Li Yu falls asleep reading a webnovel about a ruthless, mute tyrant falling in love with a dainty male concubine, he doesn’t expect to wake up inside the world of the novel—especially not as a fish!

Li Yu soon finds himself adopted as Prince Jing’s pet carp, tasked by a less-than-helpful Magic System with preventing the prince from becoming a cruel tyrant. If he can accomplish this mission, Li Yu will regain his human form. Yet how can he succeed from inside a fish bowl?!

The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish: Canji Baojun De Zhangxin Yu Chong Vol. 1 is scheduled for print and digital formats this April 9, 2024, with preorders open now.
