Rosmei Promotes Two New Danmei Novel Licenses in Priest-focused Video

Rosmei recently posted a video previewing three of their upcoming English danmei novel licenses from author Priest, including two new acquisitions—The Defectives and Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire.

The Defectives

The Defectives, original title 残次品, is a web novel written by priest that was originally serialized on jjwxc. It ran for 203 chapters after launching in 2017. Also known by its pinyin title, Can Ci Pin, The Defectives has been adapted into an audio drama (Chinese only), a manhua series (canceled), and a donghua. The donghua was released under the English title The Defective and season one is currently available to stream with subtitles on Funimation.

Funimation describes the series as:

A futuristic society is ruled by the Eden System, a mind-link technology aid that removes pain and worry. However, those incapable of being integrated into its system are outcast to the eighth galaxy. Alliance General Lin Jingheng and young Lu Bixing couldn’t be more different, but find themselves united by a common cause: leading the “defectives” in fighting against this unjust world.

Rosmei credits Xiao & Mu as translators for The Defectives.

Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire

Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire, original title 烈火浇愁, is another web novel series written by priest that was originally serialized on jjwxc. It ran for 145 chapters after launching in 2019, and was subsequently revised via updates on jjwxc throughout 2020 and most recently 2022. It has been adapted into an audio drama (Chinese only), a manhua series available in English from Bilibili, and a donghua. The donghua, also released under the English title Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire, is officially available to stream with English subtitles on a number of different platforms.

Bilibili describes the series as:

After the supernatural disaster at Chiyuan Canyon, Xuan Ji, the newly appointed head of the Aftermath Response Division, encounters a demon who was revived by a sinister ritual. As the past and present collide, flames of an ancient war reignite and threaten to topple thousands of years of peace.

Rosmei credits SassyStrawberry as the translator for Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire, who was previously announced as translator for Liu Yao, another series by priest. The artist was announced as He Zhi Shan Chuan (鶴止山川). The promo artwork shared alongside the announcement was previously posted on the artist’s X (Twitter) account, though it hasn’t yet been confirmed if this will be used as the book cover.

Three Priest Licenses from Rosmei

The Defectives and Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire join Liu Yao to make a trio of titles written by priest and licensed by Rosmei for English releases. All three are scheduled for publication in Singapore sometime in 2024, suggesting these will be similar to the majority of Rosmei’s titles in not being available for global purchase. They’ve confirmed that no digital editions will be made available for any series from jjwxc, including those by priest.

Seven Seas Entertainment is currently releasing two series by priest—Guardian: Zhen Hun and Stars of Chaos: Sha Po Lang, with the first volumes of each debuting this past summer.

Rosmei Announcement Updates

Rosmei posted an additional message stating they’ve now announced all titles licensed from jjwxc, and will be shifting to production from now on.

“The books for which we have obtained publishing licenses from jjwxc have been announced this year. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our readers for their support. The next step for Rosmei will be to shift our efforts from licensing to production.”

They also answered several questions, including saying that they will be releasing the manuscripts uncensored, and that their releases will not include interior artwork.
