LIU YAO and Infinite Flow: Rosmei Announces Four New Danmei Novels for Limited English Release

A single week after their recent guessing event, publisher Rosmei opted to skip their announced reveal dates and dropped all four of the previously teased titles earlier today: Liu Yao by priest, The Earth is Online by Mo Chen Huan, Kaleidoscope of Death by Xi Zi Xu, and Global Examination by Mu Su Li.

All four titles had been successfully guessed by followers of their Twitter account, with Rosmei’s decision to announce all of them at once—instead of over the span of four days as previously planned—coming hot on the heels of Seven Seas Entertainment’s three title reveals the previous day. All four announcements came with short videos containing the individual series’ details.

Liu Yao

Original title 六爻, Liu Yao is a webnovel series written by priest. It was originally serialized on JJWXC and ran for 109 chapters. Liu Yao has inspired an audio drama currently available to stream on MissEvan. A live-action drama and a donghua were in production for Liu Yao, but both adaptations haven’t had updates in some time.

Rosmei’s English edition of Liu Yao will be translated by SassyStrawberry, with the cover art credited to 山魂 (Shan Hun). It’s worth noting that the announcement says “Invited Cover Artist”, which may imply this is not fully confirmed. The first volume is scheduled for a Singapore release in 2024.

Liu Yao is the third novel series by priest to be licensed for an English release, with Guardian and Stars of Chaos debuting from Seven Seas Entertainment later this summer.

A translation of the original Liu Yao series synopsis, as posted on JJWXC, is below:

A cultivation story about how a declining sect was revived by a narcissist, a trickster, a meanie, and a silly child.

The Earth is Online

Original title 地球上線, The Earth is Online (“TEIO”) is a webnovel series written by Mo Chen Huan. It was originally serialized on JJWXC and ran for 245 chapters. The Earth is Online also inspired an audio drama currently available to stream on Miss Evan.

Rosmei’s English edition of The Earth is Online will be translated by luckykoi. No cover artist has been credited, though the accompanying video sports the pyramid motif common in promotional art for the series. A release date hasn’t been given.

A translation of the original The Earth is Online series synopsis, as posted on JJWXC, is below:

Six months ago, tens of thousands of black phantom towers appeared all over the world, floating above cities. Chemists, physicists, relegious individuals… They were all helpless.

Half a year later, people got used to it and stopped paying attention.

One day, Tang Mo saw a flying insect crash into one of the phantom black towers instead of simply passing through it.

The next day, a clear and child-like voice made an announcement to all mankind:

“Ding Dong! On November 15, 2017, the Earth is online.”

Kaleidoscope of Death

Original title 死亡万花筒, Kaleidoscope of Death is a webnovel series written by Xi Zi Xu. It was originally serialized on JJWXC and ran for 147 chapters. Kaleidoscope of Death also inspired an audio drama currently available to stream on netease.

Rosmei’s English edition of Kaleidoscope of Death will be translated by jiuxiaoer, with no cover artist credited. No release date has been given.

A translation of the original Kaleidoscope of Death series synopsis, as posted on JJWXC, is below:

It was strange at first, when his cat refused to let him hug it.

Lin Qiushi felt that everything around him began to seem out of place.

Then, one day, he opened a door in his house, only to find that the familiar hallway had turned into a long corridor.

At both ends of the corridor were twelve identical iron doors.

The story begins here.

Global Examination

Original title 全球高考, Global Examination is a webnovel series written by Mu Su Li. It was originally serialized on JJWXC and ran for 166 chapters. Global Examination also inspired an audio drama currently available to stream on MissEvan, and a manhua adaptation produced by Bilibili and available on their English website, Bilibili Comics.

Rosmei’s English edition of Global Examination will be translated by huayu, with no cover artist credited. No release date has been provided.

A Global Examination summary from Bilibili Comics is below:

“Global Examination: This is an examination that puts your life at stake. Answer a plethora of questions, pass the exam, and you may live. Two-faced examiner, Qin Jiu, meets the cold examinee, You Huo. In this inhumane system, both of them who have lost their memories go head to head against each other. Despite that, they have a strong mutual understanding. Alarms go off and the system collapses time and time again. During which, their memories gradually return. It turns out that even at the end of the world where there’s only dust left, you’re still the first person I met. What’s so great about this system? We’ll just destroy it. The world is brilliant and grand still, so welcome home.”

The Earth is Online, Kaleidoscope of Death, and Global Examination are all considered “infinite flow” series—a genre where a character is thrown into otherworldly scenarios or locations to participate in a seemingly never-ending string of survival games, puzzles, or challenges. It’s been gaining more and more popularity in recent years, making this a strong move on Rosmei’s part to nab what are considered some of the best-known infinite flow danmei series.

All four series will only be made available in Singapore, a licensing restriction common to all of Rosmei’s announced series to date. Despite this, Rosmei responded to a comment about the books’ availability by saying they would be working with individual retailers for distribution in the US, Canada, Philippines, the E.U., and the U.K., as well as organized GOs (group orders) for Japan, Malay, and Taiwan.
