Seven Seas Entertainment takes their first leap into danmei adaptations with their license announcement for the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation manhua series.

Based on Mo Xiang Tong Xiu‘s novel of the same name, the manhua is illustrated by Luo Di Cheng Qiu and has been running online as a webcomic on kuaikanmanhua since 2017. For a time it was available in English from the now-defunct WeComics, before a licensing issue cut the translation short at chapter 100. The manhua is co-produced by Tencent, the rightsholder for both the live-action and donghua adaptations of the same story, meaning it is subject to many of the same kinds of censorship from the source material.

Seven Seas Entertainment describes the story as:

Feared and hated for his sinister abilities, Wei Wuxian–the grandmaster of demonic cultivation–was driven to his death when the most powerful clans united to destroy him. Thirteen years later, Wei Wuxian is reborn. Summoned by a young man who sacrificed his soul in a forbidden ritual, Wei Wuxian is now bound to seek vengeance on the stranger’s behalf or risk the destruction of his own soul. But when an evil entity emerges, a familiar face from Wei Wuxian’s past suddenly appears amidst the chaos–a powerful cultivator who will help shine a light on the dark truths that surround them.

The series will be released in both print and digital editions by Seven Seas starting in December 2022. The print editions will be large trim and full-color, costing $19.99 USA / $24.99 CAN
